The Contented Angler
The Ausable River
The West Branch of the Ausable River is considered by many to be the premier trout stream in the east,
and the river certainly lived up to this claim as we spent some time camping in the Adirondacks. We
staked out our piece of wilderness at North Pole campground and found it to be very pristine and
relaxing. This is one of those places that you should experience in a tent, where after sitting around a
hypnotic fire you can fall asleep on the Adirondack earth and be awakened by the birds and rising trout.
We were able to observe more rising trout than you could count at our campsite gorging themselves on
March Browns, Tan Caddis, and BWO spinners. Yes, the angling was unsurpassed, but the things that
live in your memory were even better.
