"A friend may well be reckoned the masterpiece of nature"
These are the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson. Where would this river be without
those friends like you that bring it to life and play a huge role in The Contented
Angler.
There are more than 500 miles of rivers within a 50 mile radius of the Crowsnest pass, which is about a two hour
drive southwest of Calgary, right on the British Columbia border, and a short cast from Waterton National Park and the
Montana border. Our friend, Harry Orbin was kind enough to share the pictures and all the info from this ultimate trout
fishing trip. Yes, they are very good fly fisherman, but more important, they are anglers in our sense of the word. Joe
Kromer devotes time to teaching young adults fly tying and Harry takes time from his busy schedule to help out with
our class. Considering the location, scenery, and number and size of wild fish caught, you would assume this is a very
costly trip. Not so, this destination is quite affordable so you just don't have to settle for dreaming about it.The summer
season opens June 15 every year and the dry fly action carries right on through to mid October.

The first mention of Crowsnest Pass in written record was by Thomas
Blakiston in 1858 in his preliminary report. He reported seeing a nesting site of
ravens at the base of a Crowsnest Mountain and this is likely the source of the
name Crowsnest. There is, however, an unsubstantiated story about a band of
Crow Indians, trapped and massacred by pursuing Blackfoot at the base of
Crowsnest Mountain. The name Crowsnest was then given to the pass, a river,
and a lake.
