Nymph Fishing A History of th Art and Practice
This thoroughly researched history of Nymph fishing begins on the chalk streams of England and
ends in the U.S.  Dry fly fishing was the rule and nymph fishing was looked at as nothing more
than poaching. A piece of sheep's hair pulled off the fence made an acceptable indicator (No,
they're not new).
Frank Sawyer, Olive Kite, G.E.M. Skues are all here fishing in their three piece tweed suits. Can
you imagine this in the summer? We can rest assured that it's all happened before when we hear
that at the begining of the 19th century, they were also concerned about low water and dwindling
hatches.
It's reassuring to know that thanks to Terry Lawton, these stories concerning the evolution of fly
fishing will not be lost
Nymph-Fishing Rivers and Streams, author and biologist Rick Hafele
Here is a great example of how far we've come from Terry Lawton's study of the Halford
days. While nymph fishing was frowned upon in that period, Rick Hafele not only admits
to his love of nymph fishing, He goes as far as mentioning the strike indicator. Even the
San Juan worm is mentioned.  He explains feeding patterns—where trout feed, when they
feed, how they feed, and what's available for them to eat. Sections on tackle and pattern
selection help anglers sort through equipment and imitations to find the most desirable
outfit for their nymph-fishing needs. The 72-minute DVD, Nymph Fishing Basics,
presents basic instruction on nymph-fishing techniques. Included is an angler's field guide
to nymphs -  describing in detail their habitat, behavior, importance to trout, and the most
effective patterns and fishing tactics to imitate these aquatic insects.
