The Contented Angler
June 16, 2003
Visited Little Mahoning creek yesterday. We anticipated the Light Cahill, but only saw a few
around 8:45pm. Our familiar friend, the Tan Caddis was on the water when we arrived. We also
saw some Green Stoneflies, which the trout always seem to ignore and a cream midge which
the trout seem to love. As far as the number of fish, it's not the Little Mahoning we all remember
but there are a few fish in each pool. If you visit Little Mahoning, plan on fishing from 8:15pm
until dark. You will witness an excellent #18 Sulphur hatch and you should see the pool come
alive with feeding. Take a three weight with you and enjoy the walk along these Hemlock-lined
banks.
10/07/06 - Nothing like a good stocking of uneducated Brook Trout to
give you a vote of confidence. We tossed a Hornberg around for a
few hours and had more than enough action. We were quite
impressed with the new GrandMax. This is nice 3 weight fishing.
A Hornberg, fished dead-drift will
provide plenty of action.
"There's no music like a little river's. It plays the same
tune (and that's the favourite) over and over again, and
yet does not weary of it like men fiddlers. It takes the mind
out of doors; and though we should be grateful for good
houses, there is, after all, no house like god's out-of-doors.
And lastly, sir, it quiets a man down like saying his
prayers." --Robert Louis Stevenson: Prince Otto.
