Known mostly for that steelhead minnow imitation, but you're
going to find many more uses for UV Polar Chenille from
Hareline. This is, without a doubt, our best selling material.
Here's our PFlash Zonker.
1. Insert a 3XL #8 hook in the vise and tie in a
length of Polar chenille at the rear. Make sure
the fibers are facing the rear as shown.
2. Prepare a 1/8 wide zonker strip by
sizing the tail to shank length or slightly
longer. Wet the fur and divide it at the tie
in point.
3. Tie the zonker strip in with 6 - 8 turns of
thread.
4. Advance the thread to the front portion
of the hook as shown.
5. Take the first turn of PC over the tie in point
for the zonker strip to cover the thread wraps.
6. As you wrap the PC towards the front of
the hook, it is important that you hold the
fibers to the rear with your thumb and
forefinger. Tie down at the front.
7. Stretch the zonker strip to the front of the
hook and tie down. Some zap a gap can be
applied to the underside of the strip before
pulling forward for more durabliity. Next,
select the webbiest hackle you can find and
tie in by the tip.
8. Wrap the hackle away from you holding
the fibers to the rear as you did with the
PC. Tie down the hackle and take some
thread wraps towards the rear to force the
hackle back.
This completes the PFlash Zonker.
