The Contented Angler
"A quiet celebration of Fly Fishing"
My dad used to take me to Oil Creek when I was a young so I
have a few memories here,  you can be sure of that.  We
intentionally arrived early for the Sulphur hatch so I could try
a new streamer I designed by cloning a Mickey Finn and a
Muddler. The streamer prove itself by taking 10 trout in the
afternoon.  I have to emphasize that I used my Clouser rod
and a full sinking line.  Nothing presents a streamer or bugger
better than a full sinker. The tail end of the Sulphur hatch
began and the fish took every sulphur that you presented to

Oil Creek is located in Cherrytree Township in
Venango County. I like to fish it with a nine foot rod
and a 10 - 12 ft. leader when dry fly fishing.
The only negative aspect of Oil Creek is that it lacks a
good canopy and it will get extremely warm in the
summer. You should avoid fishing it in these conditions.

sweet as the murmur of the brook and the rustle of
the corn"

Same streamer after 8 fish. It still took two
more fish looking like this.  some super glue on
the tag will cure this
Amy with one that was fooled by a Sulphur.
Bring the family here to enjoy the Bike/walking
trail, and  the Drake Well museum.  Oil Creek
Outfitters is also on the way.
